Village Hall
Gets A Much-Needed Renovation
|

of the
period style appear elsewhere throughout the main floor
rooms. The Wiltsie House's handsome mahogany paneling
has been cleaned and repaired and dark wood louvered
blinds replace dust-catching heavy curtains.
New paint in appropriate period colors
brighten the main rooms - teal blue/green in the Board
Room, stone with white moldings on the rusticated walls
of the Main Office, terracotta in the Conference Room,
and pale gold in the Entrance Hall. Dark ceilings have
been lightened, and cushions in the Board Room are now
covered in velvet.
Space is being reconfigured, with
the front counter moved forward to permit more efficient
use of the Main Office. The new three-zone oil-fired
heating system means that all three floors of the building
will be both heated and air-conditioned. As a result,
little-used space on the second floor is now fully functional,
and its three rooms have been cleaned and freshly painted
for in-house use.
The prospect of central air-condition
is especially welcome according to Clerk Hartsig. "When
you have 50 people for a meeting in the Board Room on
a hot summer night, the discomfort level can be pretty
high," she says. Finishing touches on the renovations,
including installation of new carpeting, should be completed
sometime later this Fall. Stop in and have a look at
the work in progress!

| With cold weather coming
on, the Village staff members say they are looking forward
to working in offices that are comfortable, efficiently,
and reliably heated. No more frequent service calls
to tune up an archaic heating system that probably dates
from the 1930s when the Wiltsie Building became the
community library.
After several months of renovation,
the Village Hall is taking on a new life, with improvements
both functional and aesthetic. Reproductions period
lighting fixtures - copies of the type used in old court
houses - replace utilitarian fluorescent-and-plastic
lights in the main office, and variations |

Like the rest of the country
- and much of the world - Pittsford Village residents
are still stunned by the terrorist attack that
suddenly changed our world on Sept. ll. Our staffers
Anne Hartsig and Mary Marowski were in conference
in the Catskills 60 miles from Manhattan when
the attack took place; many of their colleagues
were from New York City and the emotional toll
among the attendees was great.
Most of us have found ways to
help in the days following the tragedy through
contributions and by volunteering for support
organizations. Our thoughts and prayers are with
the griev ing families, with those who survived
- and with each other, as we settle in for the
long, uncertain days and months that confront
us. |
